Looking for something to do in the Detroit area this weekend? Here are our suggestions:
FREE: Friday, August 2: Who's ready for some football? Bring the kids and enjoy an evening of fun and games and all things Lions, including meet and greets with players and cheerleaders, and even some on field action. Hope springs eternal for the new season!
Thursday, August 1 through Sunday, August 4: Detroiter Jeff Horste has recently moved out to Los Angeles to pursue his craft, but he's back in his hometown and guaranteed to have you laughing with a few shows at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle. From candy corn to racial inequality, he has a take on it all. Kevin Hart loved him so much, he gave him his own episode of Kevin Hart Presents: The Next Level — and so will you! Also on the bill is Esther Nevarez (spoiler: the two are a couple in real life!).
FREE: Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3: A cross between a neighborhood block party and an art festival, Sidewalk Detroit takes over the Historic Old Redford neighborhood and Artist Village for a festive, one-of-a-kind celebration of performance, interactive and installation art for everyone. Come enjoy a feast for all the senses surrounding this year's theme of Peace Power Utopia.
Saturday, August 4: From your living room TV straight to the Music Hall stage, talk show host and entertainer Wendy Williams has handpicked four comedians to join her on tour. She'll be your host for the evening of comedy, and promises costume changes, stories and cursing along the way.
Now through Sunday, August 4: Water Works Theatre Company presents Shakespeare in the Park — the Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak, to be exact. With the sky and tall trees as its backdrop, the main stage show Othello features all the romance, drama and death you would expect from the Bard, brought to life by our area's best professional actors.
