Representatives From Detroit Cultural Institutions to Judge 7-Week Contest at Planet Ant in Hamtramck
HAMTRAMCK, Michigan — The D Brief will once again host a 7-week talent competition for local performance artists in search of Detroit’s next breakout star this fall at Planet Ant in Hamtramck. Singers, musicians, comedians, dancers, magicians, and more will compete for the title of “Detroit’s Big Shot,” along with a prize package worth hundreds of dollars. The competition will be judged by representatives from a wide range of metro Detroit cultural institutions, including Arts, Beats & Eats, Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle, and 101.9 WDET-FM.
The competition kicks off on Wednesday, August 30th at 8:00pm with subsequent rounds throughout the fall, culminating in the final round on November 8th. Admission to the preliminary rounds of the competition is $5.
“We launched this competition in 2021 to help up-and-coming performers who had been forced off the stage by pandemic,” says competition producer Seth Resler, “and it was such a fun event that we decided to bring it back this year.”
The winner of the 2021 competition, beatboxer Stevie Soul, has since appeared on 101.9 WDET-FM, Fox 2, and performed at Arts, Beat, & Eats.
The D Brief is now accepting submissions from local artists who wish to compete at https://www.thedbriefdetroit.com/bigshot/. The list of prizes, the list of judges, and ticketing info can also be found on the website.
